Flex Rates give you the very best available price for the motorhome you want to rent. If you book early and there are plenty of motorhomes available, you will pay a much lower price. If you book closer to departure date or book for a high demand period then the rate will be higher.
 
However, once booked, should you need to amend the dates, the prevailing rates will apply. We get advised of new flex rates each week. Therefore each quote only valid until the end of each week.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) - GST is an Australian Federal Government imposed tax. GST is included in all Maui rates and is currently 10%. Maui reserves the right to amend GST upon Government intervention.

Administration fee - A surcharge of 3% of the total cost will be levied to cover state government taxes, duties, vehicle registration recovery and administration costs. This is included in the rate.

Apartment Style Kitchen equipment includes - Plates, bowls and cups, wine and drinking glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils, bottle/can opener, mixing bowls, colander, saucepans, frying pans, chopping board, gas kettle, electric jug, coffee plunger, toaster and tea towel.

Freshly laundered linen and bedding includes - Pillow, pillowcase, sheet and towel per person and one doona (duvet) per bed.*

General Equipment - Everyday Essentials includes - Pegs, dustpan / brush, fire extinguisher, bucket/hose, broom, matches, ice cube tray, clothes hangers, toilet chemicals and floor safe in all vehicles.

Maui Inclusive Pack for 2WD rentals is AUD $58 per day (maximum AUD $2,900 per rental) and is payable in addition to the daily rental rate.

Maui Express Return Pack:
Maui Express Return Pack is AUD $165 per rental or AUD $265 per rental when returning to Cairns, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.

Inclusions are:

  • Return with empty fuel tank
  • Return with empty gas bottle
  • Toilet and waste water emptying service *
  • Express key return (when purchased with Liability Reduction Option)
Note: Pricing will change on a monthly basis to accommodate fuel price fluctuations.
* Toilet and waste water emptying service is only available in Cairns, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.

*If you have booked the All Inclusive option or Liabilty Reduction option, you may simply return your keys to the counter when returning the vehicle without any need to do vehicle checks. This service only applies where no vehicle damage has occurred while on hire.

For Your Protection
Personal Injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party Insurance. However, we strongly recommend that all people travelling in Australia take out Personal Travel Insurance. maui does not accept any liability for personal injuries sustained during rental.

Whilst "liability cover" insurance can be purchased from a third party* to protect you from cost of any liability in case of damage, it does not directly release you from the liability associated with hiring a maui vehicle.

It is a mandatory requirement for you to accept liability directly with maui by way of a liability deposit to cover the standard liability applicable to the maui vehicle hired.

All vehicles are insured for damage to the vehicle or to the property of a third party. The standard liability option is included in the rental rate and requires a liability deposit of AUD $7,500. This amount is debited to the hirer's credit card at vehicle collection and is refunded (including the 2% credit card fee for Visa or Master Card) at drop-off provided the vehicle is returned undamaged. In the case of vehicle or property damage, part or all of the liability deposit will be retained, however you can seek reimbursement from the third party* from whom you purchased the liability cover insurance.

The liability of AUD $7,500 can be reduced to $0 by purchasing Maui's Liability Reduction Option or the Maui Inclusive Pack.

Liability Reduction Option
Cost per day AUD $46 (max charge AUD $2,300) - Liability reduced to NIL
When the Liability Reduction Option has been purchased, the hirer will not have to pay any liability at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a Third Party with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This cover includes unlimited tyres and windscreens, Overhead and Underbody damage to the vehicle plus Single Vehicle accident (excludes single vehicle rollover).

Please Note: The Liability Reduction Option is included in the Maui Inclusive Pack

MAUI STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TAKE THE BUNDLE (IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LIABILITY REDUCTION OPTION) OR THE MAUI INCLUSIVE PACK FOR TRAVEL WITH COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND.

Please see the ‘exclusions’ section below, whereby all liability cover will be made void.

EXCLUSIONS:
The Customer acknowledges that the Liability Reduction Option will not apply, and that they are responsible for all costs arising out of, or incurred in connection with:

  • a) for Damage due to vehicle use in contravention of 'Use of Vehicle section';
  • b) any Damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the Vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and negligence resulting in Damage to the hired Vehicle or third party vehicle/property;
  • c) any Damage where the Customer is charged by local authorities for being careless, showing gross negligence or wilfulness in failing to abide by the local road rules, resulting in Damage to the hired Vehicle or third party vehicle/property;
  • d) retrieving or recovering a Vehicle, which may include, but is not limited to a Vehicle that has become bogged, submerged, caught, trapped, stuck or restricted in any way and/or has been abandoned;
  • e) replacing keys which have become lost, stolen, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in the Vehicle;
  • f) any overhead and underbody Damage to the Vehicle however caused - except where Liability Reduction Option has been purchased.
  • g) any single Vehicle rollover (as described in the Use of the Vehicle section), except where The Bundle (in conjunction with the Liability Reduction Option) or the maui Inclusive Pack has been purchased;
  • h) Damage caused to the Vehicle because total load (kg) has exceeded recommended load as stated in vehicle manual;
  • i) Damaged caused by drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learner or probationary licence;
  • j) any Damage caused to the Vehicle due to the incorrect use of snow chains;
  • k) any Damage for associated with the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol), this includes Biofuel which should not be used, or water or other contamination of fuel.
  • l) any Damage caused to the Vehicle due to part or total submersion in water;
  • m) the Customer fitting accessories (as provided by maui or otherwise) to the Vehicle incorrectly or otherwise in a manner which causes Damage to the Vehicle, the accessories or any other vehicle or property; and
  • n) using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.

Vehicle Security Deposit:
With the standard insurance, the deposit (which covers the level of the excess) can be provided by credit card only. Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted, cash or travellers cheques are not accepted. The owner of the credit card must be present and sign when providing the deposit and he/she is liable for any damages to the rental vehicle. This deposit can only be provided by the renter as named in the booking and it cannot be spread over 2 or more credit cards.

Note: Please ensure that you have sufficient funds on your credit card before departure.

FOR SECURITY PURPOSES, ONLY THE HIRERS CREDIT CARD CAN BE USED FOR VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSITS.

Exchange Rare / Currency Variations:
All credit and debit transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and bank fees, there could be some variance between the amount initially debited against the Customer's credit or debit card and the amount refunded. Maui accept no liability for any such variation or any interest incurred on such amounts.

Credit Cards & Debit Cards:
Where a credit or debit card is presented as payment, the credit or debit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a Customer.

The following credit or debit cards will be accepted: Visa credit or Visa debit card, MasterCard credit or MasterCard debit card and American Express credit card. A non- refundable 1.7% administration fee will apply to all Visa and MasterCard transactions. A non-refundable 2.8% administration fee will apply to American Express transactions. Credit card administration fees also apply to debited Liability Deposits. Only the Customer’s credit or debit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the Liability Deposit. The credit card administration fees are subject to change.

Credit Cards Authority:
The Customer expressly and irrevocably authorises maui to charge to the Credit Card all amounts payable under this Agreement. By way of summary, these charges include, but are not limited to any costs or fines arising under (Delivery and return of the Vehicle), (Late drop-offs), (Rental extension), (Use of the vehicle), (On-road assistance), (Vehicle Damage), (Toll and Trafic Charges), and (Terminating the agreement and repossessing the vehicle). maui will provide the Customer with an itemised bill of the monies to be deducted by maui from the Credit Card prior to making such deductions.


Personal & Company Cheques:
Personal cheques, company cheques and bank transfers will not be accepted as payment for rental charges at the time of pick up. These must be received by Maui 28 days prior to commencement of rental. Personal cheques, company cheques or bank transfers are not acceptable as the Liability Deposit and a valid credit card will need to be provided for the Liability Deposit as per the Credit Card Authority section.

Driver's Licence
A current and full motor vehicle driver’s licence is required and must be produced upon vehicle collection. If your license is in a language other than English it must be accompanied by a current international driving permit issued in the same country as the driver’s licence was issued. An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an international driving permit.

Age Restrictions
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over.

Baby / Booster Seats
Baby seats and booster seats are compulsory in Australia for children up to 7 years of age. Seats that are only attached to the frame of the vehicle (such as the middle seat in the front of most motorhomes) are illegal. It is not permitted to use child seats from UK / Europe or other countries that do not have the appropriate connection apparatus for motorhomes. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted to sit in the front of any vehicle.

You can rent baby seats (for children under 4 years) and booster seats (for children from 4 - 7 years old) for AUD $36 per seat per rental. This is a one-off payment and is valid for the entire rental period.

Child Seat:
Suitable for child 0-4 yrs old. Cannot be fitted to all vehicles. See vehicle specifications for details.
Booster Seat: Recommended for children 4-7 years old. See vehicle specifications for details.

Please provide us with the age(s) and weight(s) of your children when you make your booking so that we can book the appropriate seat(s) for them. Baby and booster seats have to be booked in advance.

Maui Elite Option:
Guarantee a Maui Ultima, Ultima Plus, Cascade, Beach or River less than 1 year old at time of pick up, for just an extra AUD $39 per day.

The Bundle - Equipment Package
Equipment package (The Bundle) which is AUD $12 per day (Maximum AUD $600), includes the following extras:
- Camping table
- Camping chair (per person)
- WiFi including 1GB data (per hire not per day).
- Extra driver fee
- Linen exchange service
- Baby/booster seat (on request and if booked in advance)
- Portable fan / heater (on request)
- Single Vehicle Rollover Cover (only when purchased with Liability Reduction Option)

Please note: the Single Vehicle Rollover cover included in The Bundle is only available in conjunction with the purchase of the Liability Reduction Option. All other items in The Bundle are available whether you have purchased the Liability Reduction Option or not.

Rental Duration
Rental days are calculated on a calendar day basis. When calculating the number of days the Vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the Vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental regardless of drop-off time.

  • Minimum rental periods are subject to change, and any such change will be notified to you prior to booking confirmation.
     
  • Minimum rental period for one-way rentals vary depending on the locations and this is advised at time of booking.
       
  • Late pick-up or early return of the Vehicle does not entitle the Customer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.

Vehicle Pick-Up
This takes place at the booked depot and during Maui's opening hours. Please do not arrive any later than 30 minutes before closing time.

Vehicle Return
You can drop off your vehicle at the booked depot during opening hours but no later than 30 minutes before closing time.
If the vehicle is returned earlier than agreed no refunds are possible.

Late Drop Off:
If the Customer wishes to drop-off the Vehicle to a Maui branch after business hours, they must first get approval from Maui by calling 1300 363 800. The Customer will incur an additional fee of AUD $150 per day (in addition to the daily rate being charged) if the Customer fails to obtain such approval from Maui prior to the late drop-off of the Vehicle. This late drop-off fee and the additional rental charges will be charged to the Customer's credit card.

Rental Extension:
If the Customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Maui by calling 1300 363 800. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by the Customer by credit card on confirmation of the rental extension

If the vehicle is returned damaged or not in a clean state, if the toilet or waste water tanks are not emptied or the petrol or diesel tank is not full (except if the Express Return Option is booked in advance) the rental company will impose the listed fees and additional charges. The cleaning fee is AUD $250 + a further AUD $125 in the case of the waste water or toilet tanks not having been emptied.

Public Holiday Surcharge
Maui Branches are open 7 days per week with the following exceptions:

- 10 April 2020 - Good Friday (Closed - applies to all Maui branches);
- 25 December 2020 - Christmas Day (Closed - applies to all Maui branches);
- 01 January 2021 - New Year's Day (Closed - applies to all Maui branches);
- 26 January 2021 - Australia Day; (Closed - applies to all Maui branches);


A surcharge of AUD $100 will apply to all rentals picking up or dropping off on the following dates:
 
- 13 April 2020 - Easter Monday (applies to all Maui branches);
- 25 April 2020 - ANZAC Day (applies to all Maui branches);
- 04 May 2020 - Labour Day (applies to Brisbane and Cairns branches only) and May Day (applies to Alice Springs and Darwin branches only);
- 01 June 2020 - Western Australia Day (applies to Broome and Perth branches only);
- 08 June 2020 - Queen's Birthday (applies to Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney branches only);
- 08 July 2020 - Alice Springs Show Day (applies to Alice Springs branch only);
- 24 July 2020 - Darwin Show Day (applies to Darwin branch only);
- 03 August 2020 - Picnic Day (applies to Alice Springs and Darwin branches only) and Bank Holiday (applies to Sydney branch only);
- 12 August 2020 - Royal Queensland Show (applies to Brisbane branch only);
- 28 September 2020 - Queen's Birthday (applies to Broome and Perth branches only);

Branches Operating Hours:
The opening hours vary for the rental depots depending on what time of the year you pick up or drop off your vehicle. All clients are requested to arrive at the rental depot no later than 30 minutes prior to closing time. Maui requests that clients collecting or returning their Vehicle attend the relevant Maui branch by 3:30pm on the relevant day.

Brisbane:
- 01 Apr - 30 Sep: open 8.00am - 4pm seven days a week
- 01 Oct - 28 Feb: open 8.00am - 4pm closed Sundays
- 01 Mar - 31 Mar: open 8.00am - 4pm seven days a week

Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney:

Transfers to / from Depot
The transfer costs are not included in the rental rates. You will need to arrange and pay for these yourself.

Use of the Vehicle:
The Customer agrees that, during the Rental Period, the Customer will not allow the Vehicle to be:

  • a) driven otherwise than in a prudent and cautious manner. A single Vehicle rollover is considered a breach of this condition. A single Vehicle rollover may include but is not limited to a Vehicle that has rolled, tipped or fallen over and this has caused damage to the side and/or roof area of the Vehicle in circumstances within the control of the Customer. Customers who have purchased The Bundle (in conjunction with the Liability Reduction Option) or the maui Inclusive Pack will have the cost of damage resulting from an accidental single Vehicle rollover covered, providing that the Customer has not otherwise breached this Agreement in relation to the rollover;
  • b) driven at a speed in excess of a speed limit displayed in relation to the road that the Customer is driving on and as posted by the relevant state or territory authority;
  • c) driven at a speed in excess of 110 kilometres per hour at any time, including where the posted legal speed limit is in excess of 110 kilometres per hour;
  • d) driven by a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs or with a blood alcohol level in excess of that permitted by law;
  • e) left with the ignition key in the Vehicle while it is unoccupied;
  • f) submerged in water, brought into contact with salt water, used in a creek or river crossing, driven on a beach or through flooded areas;
  • g) used for any illegal purpose or in any race, rally or contest;
  • h) used to tow any vehicle or trailer;
  • i) used to carry passengers or property for hire or reward;
  • j) used to carry more persons than is permitted by any relevant authority or detailed in the Vehicle manual or on the Vehicle or specified in this Agreement;
  • k) used to carry volatile liquids, gases, explosives or other corrosive or inflammable material;
  • l) and used for the purpose of transporting and haulage of goods other than what might be reasonably expected of a leisure rental.

Animals:
Pets or other animals are not permitted inside the rental vehicles, with the exception of registered guide dogs for visually impaired passengers. Maui reserves the right to charge the Customer's credit card a cleaning fee in the amount of AUD $250 for any animal related cleaning.

Road Restrictions:

  • Vehicles must not be used on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen, or concrete). Off road conditions include, but are not limited to: fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks. The only exception to this is reasonable use of access roads limited to a maximum of twelve kilometres in length to recognized commercial campgrounds.
  • The Customer is responsible for all damage if travelling on unsealed roads as defined under the Vehicle Damage - Liability / Liability Reduction section.
  • Breach of Road Restriction Rules
    (a) The Customer acknowledges and agrees to pay to maui a fee of AUD $300 on each occasion that it is identified by maui that a Customer has taken a 2WD Vehicle on an unsealed road or a Restricted Road,
    (b) The AUD $300 fee will be due and payable by immediate deduction from the Customer's credit card.
  • We value your well-being, and for safety purposes, maui reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict Vehicle movements in certain areas due to:
    (a) adverse road or weather conditions
    (b) the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the length of the hire period; and
    (c) any concerns maui, its employees or agents may have regarding driver experience or ability.

    Maui will advise you on pick-up of any travel restrictions known at that time.

Change Of Drop-Off Destination:
If the Customer wishes to change the drop-off destination, they must first obtain authorisation from Maui by calling 1300 363 800. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to AUD $750 may apply, which will be notified to you at time of approval and is required to be paid immediately via credit card. The fee may apply in all change of drop-off destination cases irrespective of the reason for the location change.

Extra Driver Fees:
Extra drivers can be registered at the time of vehicle collection. The fee per additional driver is AUD $2 per day (max. AUD $30 per hire) unless you book the All Inclusive option. Anyone wanting to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement.

Toll and Traffic Offences:
Maui reserves the right to submit a statutory declaration to the issuing authority and/or charge the Customer for any speeding, toll way, parking or other traffic offence. In addition, maui reserves the right to charge an administration fee of up to AUD $60 for associated administration costs to the Customer's credit card upon receipt of a charge for any speeding, toll way, parking or other traffic offence incurred by the Customer. This fee will be applicable per offence.

If the Customer continues to exceed a speed of 110km or continues to exceed the posted speed limit, as determined by the Customer repeatedly ignoring the warnings of the telematics system fitted into the Vehicle, maui may impose a fee on the Customer in the amount of AUD $300.

Multiple Rentals:
Should a customer have more than one consecutive rental they can be combined to qualify for longer-term hire discounts off the vehicle rate. Consecutive motorhome hires in Australia and New Zealand for Britz, Maui and Mighty can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period.

For all rentals to qualify each booking needs to be made at the same time. If a customer makes another booking at a later time, the new booking can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period however, the original booking/s will only qualify for a discount if the booking/s are not already travelling or travelled. Longer-term discounts must be requested at the time of booking.

If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days, only the maximum charge applicable to the Liability Reduction Option or the All Inclusive option will apply. If combining a vehicle hire with another Maui vehicle that has a more expensive all inclusive option or Liability Reduction maximum cost, the more expensive option is applied. In the instance where a Maui hire is being combined with a Britz or Mighty hire and the packages have the all inclusive supplement, these components cannot be combined to have a maximum charge applied. However, the vehicle rate can have a longer-term discount applied if applicable.

Please note that the Broome and Hobart surcharge in Australia is charged for each individual rental where Broome or Hobart is a component of the booking. If multiple hires total more than 100 days, these rates and terms do not apply. Requests for quotes of more than 100 days should be made with us first by email or phone. Vehicle security deposits can be transferred between most multiple rentals. This service is available when the vehicle security deposit amount and currency is the same.

One Way Rentals

  • One-way rentals are available between all Australian depots. The following one-way fees apply at pick-up time.
     
  • A One-Way fee of AUD $165 applies where Vehicle collection originates from Adelaide, Cairns, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne or Sydney and returns to one of these locations. Should the hire originate or return to Alice Springs, Broome, Darwin or Perth the one-way fee is AUD $250.
     
  • One-way fees are additional to any other fees that may apply. The One-Way fee will be charged to the Customer's credit card at the time of booking except in the case of a change in drop-off destination in accordance with our terms in which case the One-Way fee will be charged at the time that change is made.
     
  • Minimum rental period for one-way hires is 7 days or greater depending on collection and return location Shorter hires may be available on application only.

Rentals in Broome:
An additional remote location fee of AUD $750 applies to all Vehicles picking up or dropping off in Broome. Only one remote location fee is charged per vehicle. This is in addition to any One-Way fee if applicable. This fee will be charged to the Customer at the time of booking except in the case of a change in drop-off destination occurs in accordance with the "change of drop off destination" section in which case this fee will be charged at the time that change is made.

Hobart Airport Fee:
A pick up fee of AUD $100 per hire will apply to Vehicles picking up in Hobart.

On-Road Assistance:
Maui provides 24 hour on-road assistance support. Please contact maui on by calling 1300 850 805 if you require assistance.

Any problems associated with the Vehicle including equipment failure, must be reported to maui within 24 hours in order to give maui the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so may compromise any claims for compensation. Subject to the Release and Indemnity of Maui section, maui reserves the right to not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

Maintenance and Repairs:
The Customer shall take all reasonable steps to properly maintain the Vehicle and will contact Maui immediately should any and all vehicle warning lights indicate any malfunction, or potential malfunction.

Maui will reimburse the Customer for expenditure up to AUD $100 reasonably incurred in rectifying any mechanical failure to the Vehicle. For repairs costing over AUD $100, Maui will need to be informed and confirm the repair in advance. Repairs will be approved and reimbursement for expenditure will be made (where applicable), provided the Customer was not responsible for the damage. In all cases, receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

Unless the Customer has taken the Liability Reduction Option, the Customer will pay for the cost of repairing or replacing tyres damaged during the Rental Period except if the tyre is defective and is returned by the Customer to maui for inspection and is subject to a warranty claim on the manufacturer.

Ferry Reservations
Ferry reservations can be difficult to manage during high season. We recommend that a reservation is made for a 7.7m vehicle on the ferry, irrespective as to the size of the motorhome reserved, to avoid complications due to possible upgrades.

Vehicle Availability
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Maui will endeavour to supply the vehicle category selected, however should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Maui reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification. The alternative vehicle shall be as close a substitute for the booked vehicle as possible.

Voluntary Downgrade
Should the Hirer decide to voluntarily downgrade their vehicle category from that booked, they will not be entitled to a refund.

Shortening of Rental Period:
If a renter shortens their hire period by more than a week - it may be treated as a cancellation of the whole booking and a re-booking. This depends on when the amendment takes place and how many days of hire are being cancelled. Please ensure you always have travel insurance in place.


Cancellation Policy:
The cancellation fees are:

  • If cancelled up to 91 days prior to pick-up - No Fee
  • If cancelled 90 to 22 days prior to pick-up - 10% of Gross Rental
  • If cancelled from 21 to 7 days prior to pick-up - 20% of Gross Rental
  • If cancelled 6 to 1 days prior to pick-up 50% of Gross Rental
  • If cancelled on day of pick up or No-Show 100% of Gross Rental
  • If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever no refund is available for the unused portion of the hire
Booking Amendments
All amendments to bookings are subject to availability of vehicle and/or package. Different rates may apply based on the amendment made.

Amendments prior to the vehicle collection date will be re-calculated at the flex rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates and/or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to the vehicle collection date (days are being added on at the end of the rental with no change to the original pick up date), or the Inclusive Pack is being added to or removed from the booking, the original flex rate, which applied at the time of the original booking, will apply.

Important:
Maui reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
